My name is Janell Johnson and I am a psychotherapist in Golden Valley, MN. I specialize in working with individuals, couples, and families to address a wide range of emotional, relational, and behavioral concerns. I approach my clients with compassion, openness and humor and believe my role as your therapist is to walk with you through life’s difficulties to help you discover the strength that is already within you. I actively strive to provide a supportive and safe space for us to work together, and I am truly passionate about helping you manage life’s difficulties to find peace, worth and quality in every aspect of your life. My personal experiences have given me insight that I draw on in working with clients, including being the mother of two teenage children and experiencing divorce. As someone who has made a mid-life career change from the corporate world, I also understand the stress and commitment it takes to follow one’s passions in life.
Why do I love my work as a therapist?
Because I have helped people overcome challenges that felt impossible to face.
I have seen firsthand people move from a place of pain and desperation to a place of healing and growth.
I have witnessed the power of the therapeutic process to draw out the strength of the human spirit.
I have walked with people as we worked together to create a purposeful life that is worth living.
I have seen the transformation that people experience when their relationships become sources of joy again.
There is always hope.
I would love to join you and your family to create the life and relationships you want as we work together to renew hope, to heal from the pain of the present, and to transform your relationships.
In my work as a therapist, I have helped:
*Teens with suicidal ideation and cutting stop these thoughts and behaviors and replace them with effective coping skills
*Teens and their families repair their relationships and find common ground and new ways to be supportive
*Couples recover from affairs and learn new communication strategies that make them feel truly heard and understood by one other
*Individuals suffering from extreme depression and anxiety find relief and hope
Clients have told me:
“I once saw a therapist for two years and never told her as much about myself as I have to you in just a few sessions.”
“You have really helped us make some significant changes in our relationship in such a short time.”
“I was in such a bad place when I started seeing you; I can’t believe how far I’ve come!”
